A successful combination of related disciplines is the basis of my experience. These include computer software training; graphic design & production, including four-colour work & retouching; print journalism & photography; desktop publishing; and computer systems development and management. Satisfied clients include Origination, Pearson Davis, CDL, Metro Repro, and others.
Mac programs with which I am fluent include QuarkXPress, FreeHand, PageMaker, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Acrobat, Word, Excel and FileMaker. I also know many Mac utilities.

Rigorous independent study is the key to the Antioch University BA program. Completion of lower division work at Santa Barbara City College, along with a solid foundation of graphics and journalism coursework, paved the way for the practical application of these skills. I developed new abilities through internships and employment with local human service agencies and in business.
I graduated in 1986 with a BA in Communications: Graphics & Journalism.

2003-present Communication Adviser, providing web site production and content; editorial copy for news releases, articles, speeches, and other publications; photography; and graphic design for print and web.
1995-present Offering a range of services: pre-press training onsite; colour print design & production; Web pages; Photoshop image retouching & enhancement; pre-flight for film output; Mac hardware/software installation & support.
2000-2001 Senior Mac Operator producing visuals and finished art files for major corporate and retail clients including Starbucks, Pizza Hut, KFC, Regency Duty Free, Woolworths and others.
1993-1995 Providing Macintosh system management, client and staff technical support, and high-end production. Responsible for purchase decisions, hardware & software installation and maintenance, production management support, and client file pre-flight.
1992-1993 Established and operated a freelance service in graphic design, production and consulting for major area agencies, including the The Santa Barbara News & Review (now named The Santa Barbara Independent) and Flavia.
April, 1992 Four-month contract to provide technical support, training and four-colour production in a high-end environment for this full-service printer.
1988-1991 Tom Buhl Typographers' Desktop Imaging Lab is a full-service bureau, offering film output with PostScript® RIPs, colour/gray-scale scanning, graphic production, colour PostScript prints, and traditional typesetting.
Responsibilities for management of the Labs included hardware and network maintenance; producing film output; training and supervision of staff in Lab operations; technical support and training, including documentation, for clients such as Kinko's and Patagonia; graphic design and production for clients and in-house publications.
1983-1986 Responsible for design and production of printed materials; also staff supervision, copywriting, editing, and photography.

I enjoy singing/songwriting, riding bicycles, computer games, and am a voracious reader of science fiction and topical magazines. I'm now a citizen of New Zealand and reside in Nelson.
